Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Good evening everyone. Well, it's been an exciting(!) day around our neck of the woods, last night a forest fire broke out between two large subdivisions near us and many people had to leave their homes in the middle of the night because of the danger. Somehow, I don't know how, the firefighters managed to protect all of the homes and tonight everyone has been allowed to return. They are still on alert to leave at a moments notice if the fire flares up but at least they are home.
It's deja vu around here; the last few years have been terrible for fires. Last year we had a large fire here.  It is a terrible feeling to see those flames leaping up out of the trees. We live in a semi-arid region to begin with and have had a few years of low snow pack, little rain, etc. so things are very dry. And it is unfortunately just getting worse; the temperatures have been in the mid 30's C (95 F or so) for the last week and are forecasted to stay there. There's no rain predicted but they are calling for dry lightening which will spark an untold number of fires. Just tonight they have had to evacuate people from a large lake to the north of us because of a wild fire.  I know this post isn't craft or prim related but if you could send some good thoughts and positive energy to those folks affected by these fires I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Good night for now and I'll try to post something "crafty" tomorrow! Deb~Paxton Valley Folk Art
