Spring Break

Hello everyone, thought I best pop in to say hi in case you all thought I had disappeared for good!  We got back from a spring camping trip to Vancouver Island a couple of weeks ago and since then have been working in the yard and enjoying the amazing summer-like weather we've been having, as a consequence my blog and crafting time have been very much neglected.

We had a wonderful time over at Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on the west coast of Vancouver Island, we camped at Green Point campground right in the park and beautiful Long Beach was just a short hike from our campsite.

The weather was fabulous, a couple of sprinkles and overnight rains when we first got there but then the glorious sunshine arrived.  The campground is so beautiful, you feel as if you are camped in the middle of an old growth rain forest, truly wonderful.

A campfire and potatoes roasting on the grate, what could be better?!

Haley The Hound Dog was not quite as impressed with the adventure as we were though, being in the national park she had to be on a lead at all times which didn't make her happy and all of the people and other dogs in the campsite had her a bit stressed out.  Even wrapping her up in her chair blankie didn't improve her outlook on things!

So we ended up coming home a day early as she was getting too stressed out and as soon as she walked in the door and curled up on our king size bed all was forgiven LOL!

The yard was in dire need of weeding, grass cutting and whipper snippering (aka edging!) when we got home so the last couple of weeks have been full on yard work.  Long hot days and aching muscles but so worth it in the end.  Our ornamental flowering plum was in full bloom when we got back home, the aroma of these beautiful blossoms is amazingly just like grape jelly, wish that they lasted longer!

The leaves are so beautiful as well with their variegated colours, looking up through them in the sunlight is like looking through a stained glass window.  It's one of my favourite places to sit and relax at the end of a long, hot day.

The snowball viburnum is just starting to bloom as well, I love the soft green tinge on this beautiful ball of flowers when they first come out.

And the Stella D'Oro day lilies are putting on their annual show, cheerful bright yellow faces to greet you each morning.

But hard work and no play is no fun at all so we've also been taking our ATV's out for a spin in the evenings to a small lake near our home.  The loons have returned and it such a treat to see them.

Common Loons mate for life and I always hold my breath until I see the two of them together, so grateful that they both made it through the winter and have returned to grace our small lake with their beautiful black and white plumage and haunting calls.

Haley The Hound Dog is back to her old self now that we are home and happy as a clam to be able to freely explore her beloved forest and lake.  Here she is practicing her balance beam act!

And back again, think we should change her name to Twinkle Toes!

The yellow haze on the water is pollen from the evergreen trees, at times it looks like a dust storm as the wind blows great clouds of pollen about, glad I am not allergic to them!  We had a few raindrops the day I took these pictures, you can see the ripples in the water as the rain pattered down in the picture above, but it soon cleared up and we were treated to a lake as smooth as glass with amazing reflections of the clouds floating above.

A perfect way to end a perfect day don't you think?

As soon as I can tear myself away from the lake and the garden I will return with some new projects to share with all of you, thanks for taking the time to stop by today and hope that you are able to take the time to stop and smell the roses (or day lilies!) too.  Happy creating or gardening or relaxing!

  1. So glad to see your comments box back Deb!!

Your holiday looks idyllic, even though Haley The Hound wasn't too impressed. When she has such gorgeous surroundings of her own though, I guess I can understand how she felt!

Your garden blooms look amazing Deb and thanks for the shot of the Loons, I really miss seeing them! Hugs, Anne xx

    1. Thank you Alison! I think the reason I can't get the comment box to appear on my bird album post is because it was published while I had my comments disabled and now I can't add it 'retro-actively'. Thanks for your kind words! Deb xo
