Discover Moments Mixed Media Banner

Hi everyone, back to share another mixed media make with you and this one was inspired by the current Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog theme of 'Typography'.

I had a Distress Oxide background (coloured with Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Faded Jeans DOX) that I had made for another challenge and not used so it became my jumping off point for this project.  Tim Holtz's new Cutout Blossoms dies hadn't had an outing yet so I die cut them into the prepared background.

I was mulling over what direction this project should take (yes that's how I work, I just dive right in without a clue about how it's going to turn out!) and remembered that I had some of Tim's Display Hangers that had been lurking in my stash for quite literally years.  So I backed the Cutout Blossoms with a piece of Tim's Correspondence Paper Stash, over stamped the whole piece with the Ledger Script stamp and Vintage Photo Distress Archival Ink and cut it out into a banner shape sized to fit onto the Display Hanger.

Time for some typography (or I guess more typography since I'd already stamped the background with the Ledger Script stamp), I die cut the words 'discover moments' with the Handwritten Journey die out of sanded Classic Kraft Stock and applied them to the bottom right corner of the banner.

I also just received Tim's new Tattered Butterflies Bigz die so I inked up Distress Mixed Media Heavystock with Distress Oxide inks in Frayed Burlap, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain and die cut the two butterflies from it.

I pounced a generous amount of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint onto the die cut butterflies and let it do it's magic.  Once the paint was crackled and dry, I inked over the butterflies with Ground Espresso Distress Ink, wiped off the excess and then lightly spritzed them with water to let the Distress Ink seep into the cracks.  The butterfly bodies were adhered onto the butterflies and their wings gently shaped into curves.

The Display Hanger was first finger painted with Distress Paints (Rusty Hinge, Ground Espresso and Iced Spruce) and then more colour was applied with Distress Crayons in Rusty Hinge, Tumbled Glass and Ground Espresso.  The words 'sweet life' were applied to the Display Hanger label with Words Remnant Rubs and the label and epoxy sticker overlay then adhered onto the hanger.

A heart and bird charm from Tim's Treasures Adornments were coloured in the same manner as the Display Hanger and affixed onto the neck of the hanger with jump rings.

A 'wonderful' Muse Token and brad were then coloured with Iced Spruce Distress Paint and more patina added with Distress Crayons in Rusty Hinge, Tumbled Glass and Gathered Twigs.

The Muse Token and the butterflies were adhered to the prepared banner, the completed banner was clipped onto the Display Hanger and my Discover Moments mixed media banner was complete.  Here are a few closeups of the finished peice.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing how it came together and thanks to Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge blog for the inspiration!

As always thanks so much for stopping by today and happy creating,

Deb xo
