Ballerina Birthday Card

Hi everyone, hope this finds you well and that everyone down south and in the east survived that big storm unscathed!  I've got a simple birthday card to share with you today that was inspired by the March challenge over in the Tim Holtz Addicts Facebook group where we were challenged to use Tim's Distress Crayon smudge technique.  My niece's birthday is coming up soon so I decided to make a card for her utilizing the technique and one of Tim's wonderful Paper Dolls.

As I said this one was easy peasy; I die cut a piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock with the Mixed Media #2 dies, adhered it to a musical score background with Distress Matte Collage Medium and then coloured it with Distress Crayons in shades of pink and purple.  A heart was cut out of a piece of kraft coloured script scrapbook paper (I didn't have a heart die big enough so I cut it by hand, it's a bit wonky but I'm telling myself that adds to the 'handmade' feel of the card LOL!) and adhered over top of the Distress Crayon coloured background.

The whole assembly was then mounted onto a piece of gold Metallic Kraft Stock, some little stars were die cut from the same with the Simon Says Stamp's Holiday Shapes die and a Quote Chip coloured with Spun Sugar Distress Marker was added to the bottom edge.  I also intensified the Distress Crayon colours on the Mixed Media die cut too as they were looking a bit pale.

A card blank was cut from white cardstock and the panel adhered to the front.  One of Tim's lovely little Paper Doll ballerinas was coloured with Spun Sugar Distress Marker and Distress Crayon with a touch of Wilted Violet and then she was accented with Star Dust Stickles Glitter glue.  One of the die cut stars was added to her head dress, I popped her up on some foam squares and added her to the center of the heart, stamped a birthday sentiment on the inside and the card was done.  See, told you it was easy-peasy!

Here are a few closeups.

I'd like to link my card up with the current Feminine/Girly challenge over at Simon Says Stamp's Monday challenge blog.

Thanks as always for stopping by today and happy creating!

  2. Deb, this is such a darling card! Adding the glittery sticklers to her dress is a fabulous idea! It just brings her to life. I love that die cut heart as well. Must borrow that idea. Great job with this card.

  3. What a great piece, Deb! It made me smile and as always, it was a treat to see the details you incorporated and the techniques that you used. I love how you chose the "limited edition" sentiment which goes so perfectly with this bubbly one-of-a-kind girl! Beautiful work and I'm so glad you took the time to share it with us for this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!
